In this case, “school bus drivers” are individuals who drive school busses for Gray Line of Tennessee within the state of Tennessee. Common bus routes for school bus drivers include, for example, routes to and/or from school, extra curricular activities, or after school activities, camps, field trips, and athletic events. Some school bus drivers also drive a school bus when providing shuttle services. For example, wedding transportation or church transportation.

- Gray Line of Tennessee paid its school bus drivers a set rate for each bus route they drove;
- Gray Line of Tennessee did not track the amount of time that its school bus drivers worked for pay purposes;
- School bus drivers often worked over forty (40) hours in a workweek (for example, performing pre-trip inspections of their bus, driving their bus route(s), performing any required bus maintenance (like re-fueling and washing the bus), completing post-trip inspections of their bus, and parking their bus in its designated area); and
- Grey Line of Tennessee did not pay its school bus drivers overtime wages for all hours worked over 40 hours in a workweek.
