Are You Paid by the Day?

If you are paid by the day, you may be owed overtime wages. 

In 2023, the U.S. Supreme Court confirmed that workers paid a “day rate” for their work are entitled to time-and-a-half overtime pay for hours worked over 40 in a workweek unless their employer meets certain requirements. See Helix Energy Sols. Grp., Inc. v. Hewitt, 598 U.S. 39, 143 S. Ct. 677, 214 L. Ed. 2d 409 (2023). Common industries that pay people by the day include the oil & gas industry, nursing, and consulting.
